Mini & Micro Projects of the Pelham Education Foundation

During the 06-07 school year, the Foundation awarded $20,000 in minigrants (grants of up to $5,000 each to fund teacher- initiated projects) for the following:
-      Successmaker software licenses were purchased for each elementary school for individualized math instruction.
-      A 30 hour course was funded to train teachers from all 4 elementary schools in the use of a multisensory approach to teaching reading, spelling and writing.
-      The sixth grade art and science teachers received funding to provide hands-on activities designed to create clear links between science and specific art forms and media.
-      Video cameras were purchased for students in the high school so that the students may develop instructional videos for the elementary, middle and high school students about the trout program (previously funded by a PEF grant), how aquariums represent ecosystems and other lab activities.
-      Funds were provided to develop an early identification and intervention program for math learning problems.
-      “Contexts for Learning Mathematics”, a math series to supplement and enrich math instruction, was purchased for a second grade teacher.
-      A third grade teacher was awarded a grant for her students to do an integrated study of reading and writing magazines.
